Condor #842
Sex: Unknown Hatch Location & Date: Wild hatch, Big Sur, CA, Spring 2016 Release Date: Wild fledge - Fall 2016 Parents:  #204 (or #470) and #534 Local Biological Siblings: None Breeding Status: Unpaired Offspring: None
Condor 842 hatched in a redwood cavity in Big Sur in late Spring of 2016. 842 was raised by a trio consisting of two males, #204 and #470 (#204's son) and female #534. We will not be able to confirm the gender or parentage of 842 until we capture this young wild condor and obtain a blood sample for DNA testing. Condor 842 fledged in late Fall of 2016 and was nearly captured in the Spring of 2017, barely escaping as the trap door was being closed. Condor 842 is the only "tag-less" condor flying free in central California, a true wild one. Our hope is that one day all the wild condors will be tag-less like 842. We are not quite there yet; the radio and GPS tags are still critically important tools that inform us how long condors are surviving in the wild.

More photos of Condor #842 coming soon.
