Condor #650

Condor #650 is part of the 2014 Big Sur release cohort! He was laid, hatched, and raised at the Los Angeles Zoo. At first, #650 wasn't too sure about life outside of the zoo. It took about 10 minutes to leave his kennel and enter the flight pen in our wilderness sanctuary, but when he finally decided to come out he rocketed in with a big bang and awkward push out of the kennel!

He seemed to be much more cautious than the others that entered the pen with him. Despite his spirited entrance, #650 is the most reserved Condor of his cohort; he has his favorite perch and prefers to sit alone rather than sit with his fellow juveniles.

Condor #650 was released in March and the field crew bestowed him with the name "Zenith." This name comes from his first flight, which was immediately toward the "Pen Cam" and straight up, high into the sky on a big thermal! Zenith will joined his wild siblings, Condor #310 and Condor #514. They are under the care of Pinnacles National Park, but visit Big Sur frequently, so it will be interesting to see if he develops a special bond with those who share his parents.
